Social hour at 6:30pm, Presentation at 7:00pm

Charles Slatkin, President and Creative Director of WOW INC, and Executive Director of the non-profit, The Wonder Mission (www.thewondermission.org)), is an internationally recognized “wow factor” guru and experiential multimedia media pioneer.

He holds degrees in Electronic Communications from Clark University, and a MFA in Photography, Film and Video from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

He was a creative director and producer for one of the world’s highest resolution screens at Comcast headquarters in Philadelphia, PA, The WOW Room at The New York Stock Exchange,  The China Pavilion at Shanghai World’s Fair Expo, and The GW Bush Presidential Library in Dallas Texas.

Over his career has produced over a thousand linear, interactive, and web-based programs for clients such as: Comcast, Macys, The New York Stock Exchange, Amgen, American Museum of Natural History, Animal Planet, NOVA, A&E, Comcast, National Geographic Panasonic, and PBS.

He recently closed down his corporate work and has focused on launching  “The Wonder Mission”, a (501)(c)(3) organization focused on inspiring and reconnecting both ourselves and younger generations with the wonder and amazing potential of science, space, technology, and engineering.

The Wonder Mission’s® goal is to help inspire both young and old with the confidence that anything really is possible…and that they can be part of making wondrous things happen.

Its initiatives include:

  • The Robert Goddard Project Saving the home of Dr Robert and Esther Goddard for posterity and leveraging Goddard’s legacy to inspire more kids to pursue science, engineering, and math.
  • Organizing a movement and events for The First Launch Centennial (March 16, 2026)” which will honor the  100th anniversary of Goddard Launching the world’s first modern rocket and the dawn of the space-age. The Centennial will not only Goddard’s achievement but will simultaneously honor all our modern-day Goddard’s’ who work tirelessly to push the boundaries of human knowledge.
  • The Overview Effect Experience. The creation of permanent and traveling space and science focused immersive experiences that push the boundaries of electronic storytelling, resolution, and visualization and ignite curiosity.
  • Like Boston’s Freedom Trail, The National Space Trail is a roadmap of a unique collection of sites across the United States that were and are seminal to both the history of, and the continuing scientific exploration of space. We envision the trail to be able to be navigated both physically (in person) or virtually using VR/AR/Mixed Reality .

ABSTRACT

Goddard’s story is an inspirational one of vision, perseverance, discipline, and focus in pursuit of the dream of space.  The more we learn about Robert and his wife Esther the more inspiring they become.

Goddard represented a rare combination of visionary[1] dedication and technological brilliance a century ahead of his time. ( Carl Sagan)

He wrote about ion propulsion;  a vacuum high-speed train and solar energy collected in space to power cities.

He envisioned nuclear propulsion—long before nuclear energy was taken seriously.

He believed that humanity’s descendants might one day travel not only to nearby stars, but across vast star clusters in the Milky Way.

And today, that same spirit lives on.

In scientists. Engineers. Educators. Innovators. Students. And big dreamers.

Who work tirelessly, often unappreciated, to push the boundaries of what is known, to benefit humanity

If we can progress from Goddard’s primitive rocket to Voyager exploring interstellar space in just 100 years.

Imagine what our young “Tomorrow’s  Goddards”  who dare to imagine our future in space” or "what future science can accomplish…”
